MFCA Mark G. Falkenhan Operational Leadership Seminar
Instructional Hours: 8.00
Morning Session Course Description
FIRE ACADEMY TO THE FIRE FLOOR: WHY THE DISCONNECT? -- Confronting a dilemma that has plagued the fire service for decades, the old mentality of "you'll learn that in the firehouse" has set young, motivated firefighters up for failure. Unfortunately, not every firefighter can be part of an organization rich in pride, tradition, and training. This class aims to bridge the gap for lost firefighters trying to find their way and senior firefighters looking for a renewed passion for their job. We will cover everything from your first day to your first fire and every subsequent fire throughout your career. By connecting the dots, this class will provide valuable insight and training to help you succeed in your career as a firefighter.
Afternoon Session Course Description
LITHIUM-ION BATTERY FIRES UNDERSTANDING THE TACTICAL SENSE OF A MODERN FIRE -- This is a class developed by a collective group of firefighters and fire officers who battle these fires inside structures on a daily basis. We break down the ins and outs of these fires in real-time as we collect new and vital intel every day. Unfortunately, the topic of lithium-ion battery fires is being discussed and studied in a reactive form. This job is constantly changing with the times, and staying up to date with current trends and how they affect our tactics will ultimately allow us to be proactive instead of reactive the next time the fire meets us at the door.
This seminar is presented by Lt. Mickey Farrell, FDNY; Founder, Top Floor Tactics with support from the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association.
