High-Rise Fire Operations

Instructional Hours: 4.50

High-Rise Fact: At any fire time is needed to transform orders into actions. Because all the operations at a high-rise fire are occurring far above the ground, this timeline increases. An incident commander must anticipate what may occur and begin to request resources immediately. This seminar focuses on high-rise fire tactics and strategies that can help to mitigate firefighter risk.

This program is designed for firefighting personnel of all ranks who respond to high-rise building fires. Topics discussed include:

  • Why is the high-rise fire different?
  • Developing the high-rise mindset
  • Understanding the high-rise building systems and components
  • FDC's, sprinklers and fire suppression systems
  • Initial actions upon arrival for the high-rise fire
  • Engine Company Operations
  • Special Services Operations
  • EMS Operations
  • Command and Control

This seminar is presented by Dan Shaw, Retired Assistant Fire Chief, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Nationally Recognized Fire Service Speaker
